Which component should I upgrade?

Alright, so it's about that time where I need to upgrade one or two components in my PC (or peripheral device). Before I ask, I'll list my specs.

MOBO: Sabertooth Z77
RAM: 16GB @1600Mhz
CPU: 3570K OC to 4.2Ghz
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 680 (GV-N680OC-2GD)
Monitor: Samsung T260HD @60Hz (1920x1200)

Now here's my question, if I were to upgrade one of these components, clearly it should be either the GPU or monitor. The only problem is, I can only afford upgrading one, and I will have to get rid of the previous part before upgrading, no dual monitors or SLI. I get pretty great FPS with this card, the only thing is, I'm often capped at the 60FPS limit with this 60Hz monitor.

I am looking at either upgrading to a GTX 780Ti or the Asus VG278HE monitor. Should I get a better GPU so I can eventually get a better monitor that will allow me to take advantage of the new cards power, or a monitor to see how far my 680 can take me? Keep in mind, the VG278HE also has a lower res, at 1920x1080, so I'm assuming that that will also boost my performance on top of allowing me to actually see more frames with its 144Hz refresh rate. I'm just not sure which to go for, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced.

Getting that asus monitor is more like just sidestepping. You will lose the T.V. tuner and as you said, lower resolution. Hence why both retail at around the same price. You would need to spend 500+ to get a better monitor.

On that note, you're going to have to spend 500+ on a new graphics card as well if you want something better than the 680.

If it were my choice, I would go with the monitor. The 680 is still very viable. I'm in the same boat as you but I am generation behind in my GPU upgrade. I would still get a gaming monitor before upgrading my GTX 560Ti.

The T.V. tuner is never used, so I won't be sad to see that go. Here's my problem, I want to see more than 60FPS since I have the hardware to do so (for the most part). There are no 1920x1200 120Hz monitors out there, so in order to see more frames, I need to get that refresh rate, so if I were to upgrade the monitor, I would have no other choice than to get a lower resolution monitor. Also, remember that lowering my resolution in game will also give me better frames, which I could actually see with the new refresh rate.

Why not just step up your game? You dont have to settle for less resolution.... Jump up to 1440P @ 144Hz with this little guy http://www.amazon.com/BenQ-XL2420TE-Performance-24-Inch-Professional/dp/B00D7IG556/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1384988035&sr=8-4&keywords=120hz+1440p+Monitor

ehh it's only 1080P also... my bad

how did you find that monitor? The price / features looks amazing. Is it a good monitor? (im also in the market)
