GTX660 SLI versus upgrade to 770 or 780

I currently have a gaming PC with a Geforce GTX 660 graphics card in it.

I want to upgarde it, but I don't know what to get.

I was looking at a 770, 780, or a 660 to SLI with.

I would need to get a new motherboard, OS and CPU to SLI (motherboard is from the original dell PC) but I think the price would still be lower.

Basically, I want to know performance per cost benefit.

Any help will be appreciated!

I mean if you don't have any beef with AMD the R9 290 is a fantastic card for $400. It can outperform the GTX 780 Ti when it is overclocked. I would wait for that card to come out with non-reference coolers and just go with that. Whats your current CPU?
BTW the R9 280x is also a great card for the $300 price point.

I've always used Nvidia cards. I've always been wary of the AMD cards, and I read a lot about problems they have had in the past.
I just didn't consider it, really.
I also don't overclock. I'm not that good yet, and I don't feel like accidentally making a $300+ mistake when I inevitably break a water pipe.

i just came from having a single 660 and then later bought a second one for sli as an upgrade. you can see in my sig the card i have now. 660's i found are actually limited to 1.5gb vram due to the strange 192bit memory interface. caused some stuttering in games that were maxing out the vram. get a single faster card.

Well then.
So, go with the 770/780 or the previously mentioned AMD cards?

would go with a 3gb+ card, a 280x/7970 is pretty much equivelant to a 770. the 290 is as faster than the 780 and is also a good option, just get one with the non-reference cooler.
