Hi there, I'm having some trouble setting up so I'm seeking some of your help.

I just bought a new pc and a monitor. The graphic cards' MSI GTX770 and the monitor's the Dell U2312HM. When I use DVI, everything works fine. But if I use the DP cable then the whole screen will be black. I've tried both auto-selecting the input and manually setting the input to DP on the monitor.
Here are some things that I've tried and noticed:

  • - If I start off with no cable, and then plug in the DP, then the monitor doesn't seem to receive any signal at all. It will just just "Entering Power Saving Mode".

    - If I plug the DVI to another monitor, and the DP to the Dell, Windows (And NVIDIA Control Panel) does detect that there are 2 monitors. But only the DVI monitor can display, the DP-Dell one is still black, doesn't matter whether I set the setting to "Extend", "Duplicate", or "Show only on".

    - If I'm using 2 cables at once (either to 2 monitors or 2 to the same monitor), and then pull out the DVI one, then the monitor won't go into sleep mode, it's just...black.
I would appreciate it if you can give me some insights and suggestions. I'd prefer not having to bring the whole thing back to the shop.

I managed to borrow a laptop with a DP port. Connect it to the monitor and it's still black. Also, I googled and found someone mentioning that some cheap DP cable connect the pin 20 on both ends, which is not supposed to, so I'm hoping it's the cable's fault and not the monitor's.
