ey so I have a acer travelmate c100. The specs are: Pentium 3 @1ghz, 256mb ram, silicon motion 3d gpu. Yes I know the specs are TERRIBLE but ive seen a lot of forums and youtube videos of people running windows 7 and 8 on a pc as crappy as this one. So the new HDD is coming in the mail but my question is, which operating system should I install on it? Like which will run the smoothest. If it could run 8 that would be awesome because it has the pen touchscreen. I just want a change to the sluggish windows xp tablet edition it had before the hard drive crashed. Thanks ahead of time!

Windows 8 definitely, trust me ive learned. I am not a fanboy at all of any OS, i just feel W8 will be a much better choice. I bet you think it will be hard to use the new "metro" UI, but i never even use the metro side. You can install Classic Shell for free (super light resource use) and it will take you straight to the desktop when you log in and will add the same start menu and button as Windows XP, Vista, or 7. There are many new features in W8 that many people dont notice or know about, but they will definitely be helpful. Like if you plan to switch motherboards or any other hardware, no more windows re installs will be needed.
Trust me, just get Windows 8, i cant stress enough. It has the same feeling as Windows 7, but the boot time is MUCH better and there are many advantages.

I agree with leeb2013. Here it says to run windows 8 you should have 1gb for 32 bit and 2gb for 64 bit. You should be getting 64 bit hands down, so i would get at least 4gb for extra room.

Yea but those requirements are always WAY more than what you actually need. Like I said look at the youtube videos with windows 7 and 8 running on 96mb of ram and a Pentium 2 cpu. Thanks a lot guys im definitely going to install windows 8 on it now. Thanks!

I guess if your idea of 'running' is 2 minutes to open 'mydocuments' then yep, you only need 96mb ram for Windows 7.
