My nephew is letting me use his second-hand HP/Compaq dc7100 SFF computer while my box is in for repairs. The nvidia geforce 8400gs video card burned out. Luckily, there's video on the motherboard, so I can use it, but I'd like to replace the video card. I went to my local shop in Thailand yesterday, but all the cards they had were high profile -- the brackets were about 4-1/2 inches long. I need a card with a bracket about 3 inches long, else it won't fit in the small form factor case. Newegg shows several of this type card with the notation "low profile ready" or "low profile." I understand "low profile ready" means they are supposed to include the short bracket and I have to change it. Could I just buy the card without the short bracket and use the bracket from the old card? I don't see any reason why not, but this is not something I've worked with before (well, I have changed the graphics card in another box so I don't feel intimidated).
