Is my graphics card dying?

I have a Sager NP8150 laptop that I've owned for almost 2 years now with a Radeon 6990m graphics card. Today, the screen started flashing and flickering random colors. Along with this the screen even split in 2 (as in the rightmost portion moved over to the left side of the screen). After doing this for a second and going even more crazy when I tried to move my mouse it just went to a screen with lines. I rebooted and could not even get the display to come up on my laptop. I plugged it into the HDMI connected to my TV and it displayed but was still acting goofy.

So after this, I decided to try and unplug/replug in the graphics card as I heard that it could help. Since then I've been able to start up my laptop and use it for up to hours with no problems, but eventually it starts acting like it did before with the screen flickering/flashing/splitting/etc...

I also tried to uninstall and reinstall the driver but it didn't seem to help. Which brings me to another weird problem which is when I try to open Catalyst I get the message "No amd graphics driver is installed, or the amd driver is not functioning properly".

So is my graphics card on its last leg or is there a chance it could be software related?

Haven't felt any noticeable heat. The CPU is in the mid 40s right now and the graphics card is at 55. Just booted back up, but the computer was only off for a second as it crashed again. Also the screen went blue for about 20 seconds and then I got a BSOD. That was the first time I had encountered a BSOD. Don't really know enough to know what the problem may be, didn't have time to pull any important info off the BSOD.

I had an almost exact same thing happened to my older pc, HP pavillion, and everything that you described that is happening to your pc. Trust! Your hunch is right, your gpu is dying. I replaced mine with a gt630 and everything went back to normal with an even better gpu, graphics and performance. Then i replaced my psu to upgrade some parts and add parts to that pc and it still working just as good when it was brand new.

So it kept crashing and going crazy all last night. Eventually the screen went black when booted and I could only see it through HDMI (with thick blue lines running down the screen) and it would only boot into safe mode. So finally I uninstalled the drivers again and for the time being it seems to be working. I'll keep you guys updated but if it's working without the AMD drivers, does this mean the drivers are the problem? If so, how can I make sure to do a completely clean install of them? When I just tried to reinstall them last time, the same issues came back.

Bump for any other input to what I just posted. I'm assuming the graphics card is dying and I'm just getting my hopes up, I'm just wondering if there's any reason why it would seem to work fine using the default Windows drivers but when using the AMD Radeon ones it goes crazy.
