the Video memory does not care what type of memory is installed on the motherboard

yes, it will work.

another way to look at it is, if such a setup will not work, then where can we use a gddr5 GPU? we only have ddr3 motherboards :) 

dont worry about it. but next time, get a gddr5 gpu, they are faster
