Hi all,

just wanting to get some thoughts on my picks before I go to purchase mode. I wont be listing from pcpartpicker since I live in third world, and have different prices for everything, and some products/brands are not even available at all. Here is what I am going for (more or less):

CPU: FX 8320 (OCd to 4.3-4.4, nothing extreme but I will try to get what I can for 24/7 stable work)
CPU COOLER: CM 212 Hyper EVO
MB: GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 rev. 4.0 (please comment on MB choice, locally seems like best buy)
RAM: Patriot Black Mamba 2x4GB (provided I can get it, otherwise Kingston Hyper X 2x4GB)
SSD: Samsung EVO 128GB (will not go for HDD in this computer, no need)
GPU: Sapphire R9 280x Vapor X (I could go potentially to GIGABYTE R9 280x that I could get for 50 euros cheaper, please comment)
PSU: Cooler Master V700 (the new series with Seasonic inside)
CASE: Fractal Design Define R4 (Ill be putting another 2 vents in it, so front/bottom for intake and back/top exhaust)

The only thing I will use it for is gaming (practically BF4 MP only). Im pretty much decided on Dell P2414H for my monitor so will be playing in 1920x1080.

Now the questions. I would like to play on ultra with good FPS, meaning ~60 on average (thus the 280x). Will this CPU bottleneck my GPU and total performance? I could potentially go for 4670k, but this would cost me 80 euros more just for the CPU. Is it worth it really? Im hearing lots of stories about Mantle too, but nobody really knows how big improvements it will bring to both CPU and GPU use.

Thanks for any input

I'd rate this system 7/10, if we say that i7-4960X + HD 7990 is 10/10!

Overall, very good, very sensible.

The motherboard you picked makes a lot of sense as its among the cheapest 990FX chipset boards. Its not exactly the greatest, but it probably has a very good cost/performance ratio.

Graphics cards - focus on the cheaper end of the spectrum usually. Without a specific country/website its a little hard to advise, but if the Gigabyte board is this one - http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4793#ov
then its a very good buy most of the time. It's not the quickest board, but it's far from the slowest (the VaporX has slower figures), it's well priced in most places, and has a well reviewed cooler. The main negative is its pretty huge.

If your sole focus is BF4, then the CPU is not an issue at all, its going to run at very similar speeds (if not faster) than an i5 due to how well BF4 handles multi threading.
As for FPS, there's quite a lot of settings to tweak. With no AA, I'd estimate you'll get around 60-65fps average at 1080P, and mybe 45-50 with 4X MSAA. If you want absolutely every setting maxxed, you need a ridiculous graphics card, but hopefully those figures are what you are looking for.

@jnjnilson6 Thanks buddy, but I fail to see how are 4960x/8320 and R9 280x/7990 comparable in any way, considering the price

@Rammy Thank you very much for the input. RE your comments:

MB - yes, thats why I picked that one, for that money it offers very decent performance. I had a chance of getting the Sabertooth r2 for almost the same cost, but wasn't fast enough

GPU - thats the card, yes, it does look like a good solution, especially considering the price (where I live Vapor X is around 290 euros, while I can get the Gigabyte one for 240 euros). I am not very worried about the size, with the Define R4 I will just kick the upped HDD cage out (more room and better air flow), so will have like 45 cm of room for the card

Yes, the sole focus is BF4 MP, Im actually out of gaming for a while now and just getting this computer for that game. As you mentioned, I am not going for extreme settings, just what the 280x can handle well in full HD, without the CPU killing the performance (which was my main fear).

If there are any other first hand opinions, 8320 owners that play BF4, feel free to give more input.

Thanks

Hey RobCrezz, I understand that FX CPUs can get a bit hot, but it also depends, I have seen people saying they run it pretty high with an EVO. I was tempted to get an Phantex, I could go even up to maybe 4.7-4.8, but just cant justify the price (80 euros, compared to 30 euros for EVO). I will keep this in mind though if CPU gets hot, or I want more OC.

Yeah the Define R4 is great for the price, give me all I need!

Yeah thats fair enough, the 212 is still decent. I am really pleased with my Phanteks TC-12DX even though its only the mid range model and it was only like £35 (£10 more than the 212 evo), so I can recommend that if you want to spend the extra.

You will love the Define R4, its a pleasure to build in.

I've seen some GTX 770s for close to the price of the 280x. It's a least worth checking out when it comes time to buy. The Samsung evo is great, but there may be a different ssd on sale at the time that could be a better pickup. Other then that it looks good.
