So I'm about to buy a gtx 780 but want to make sure my CPU won't hold it back. I have an Intel i7 870, 8gb ram, xfx 650 watt PSU. Will I be able to get the most out of that GPU or will I bottleneck? Would a 770 be better for my CPU? I'll be gaming single monitor, 1080p.

It may bottleneck it a bit, though i don't think so. But don't get the 770 because of this. What if in 1-2 years you change your cpu, you would regret getting a lower gpu. Bottom line is even if it will bottleneck it, it will not be noticeable.

Awesome, thank you. I currently have a gtx 560 ti, do i need to uninstall the drivers before putting in the 780 and if so what's the best way to do that? This is my first time installing a gpu. I installed a new PSU yesterday and that was the first time I've installed anything in a computer since 2001 and that was just a cd burner lol.

Uninstall nvidia drivers. Boot into safemode and run driver sweeper to clean all nvidia remaining files. Reinstall new drivers. That's the method i use when changing cards.
