Last year I bought an XFX Radeon HD 7850 I am willing to put $300 into a new GPU my question is should I just buy a brand new single graphics card for $300 or I was thinking it might be better just to buy another XFX Radeon HD 7850 and put it into crossfire mode. That way I'll have double the GPU power right? So my FPS will improve while gaming.

That looks exactly like the card I have currently. And I know that I have 1GB of dedicated memory because I checked in Display Settings - > Advanced Settings. Also, If I did buy another XFX Radeon HD 7850 what if I bought the 2GB one and crossfired it with the 1GB card I currently have? Is it important that I take the card out of my computer and lookup the model number and buy EXACTLY the same card as I currently have for this to work correctly?

Also, with today's games would I be able to play just about any game on the highest possible settings with good fps If I put this card in crossfire mode? I only have 1 monitor with 1280 x 720 resolution

yes SLI is a better option but a single 7850 is a MAJOR overkill for that res. 7850 alone should max out all games on that res, with AA

SLI?

OP get the single $300 card instead. Its simpler.

Your PSU and mohterboard needs to support dual cards too, and thats always a mission.

@Novuake sorry i meant CF. but they are pretty much the same thing anyways.

@op, you can CF a 1bg card with a 2gb one but the 2gb one will only have 1gb useable. and you need a card from the same model like a 7850 with a 7850, not a 7850 with a 7950.
