I have an ASUS P8Z77-V LK

Here is my problem.

I can't get into the BIOS settings. I see the screen to press the DEL or F2 key, but no matter how much I press those buttons, I can't get into my BIOS. It just blows past that screen and immediately takes me to my desktop.

I have had my computer for 4 months now, originally I had no issues getting into the BIOS. Now I just can't ha!

I have never updated the BIOS because I have had no reason to do so.

The only helpful information I have to offer is that this seemed to start happening when I switched to Maximum Performance on my SSD. SO the computer boots around 5 sec. Does this have anything to do with it?

Just wondering if anyone knows what could possibly be happening before I go through the long process of calling ASUS.

Thanks!

@amacher2772 i also have this kinda problem, mine is a USB one, and though i can use the keyboard at bios screen, it loses power after that. its annoying as i have to wait 30 seconds if i suddenly lost power. my other PS/2 keyboard didn't have this problem.

This can also be a problem if you are using a wireless keyboard. Sometimes those drivers don't load in time to get into the BIOS. Try a hard wired USB or PS2 keyboard if you have one (or can borrow one; I always keep one on hand for just this reason).

The keyboard I am using at the moment is a hard wired USB keyboard. The lights on the keyboard appear to come on before I even see the post screen. But then they turn off again around the same time the POST come up.

I have a PS2 keyboard somewhere around here. Maybe I will give that a try later on when I get home.

Sorry for the delay in replies.

But I read an article while reading up on potential problems that seemed to work for me. This might not be a fix for everyone but I read that some motherboards give priority power to the top left USB slot on the back of the motherboard.

I just tested it a few times and I was able to get in to the BIOS without any difficulty. The USB keyboard got power right away and stayed on.

Thanks for all your help guys. I appreciate it!

There was also some settings in my BIOS that I changed to help avoid this conflict even more in the future.

There was a setting to make all USB slots priority, so every USB slot in theory should have power during POST.

There was also another setting that allowed me to extend the time delay of the POST screen. So now the POST screen is forced to stay there for 5 sec, giving extra time to enter the BIOS.

Maybe this will help anyone else who is having these same issues.

Cheers!
:)
