Sometimes, I would say 1 in 40 start ups, I get this sort of picture in Windows XP on my ASUS X50N:

The picture is shifted. All I have to do is to switch the monitor off and on (FN + F7) so it's not a big deal.

But still, why is this happening? Is this some kind of syncing issue of the XP drivers? The graphics card is Nvidia Geforce 7000M.

Indeed a sync problem.

It is most likely that the correct Hz is not being set after windows has loaded to the desktop from the boot into windows.

Try to find the make and brand and model number of your monitor and see if you can get a monitor profile for it.

It should sort the switching of the refresh rates so the image fits the screen setting the right Hz value for the resolution you have set up.
