How can I run dual monitors on my computer?

I have the AMD Radeon HD 6450 graphics card and I am having difficulty running dual monitors. As of now, the primary monitor has the VGA cable plugged into the computer and the second monitor also has a VGA cable but has a DVI-D adapter to plug into the computer. The computer itself will not detect or identify the second monitor and either will CCC. What am I doing wrong and if so, how can I fix it?

You can not have an analog VGA monitor on a DVI-D for digital port. UNLESS you have an ACTIVE CONVERTER to use.

At least one monitor needs to be digital (DVI, HDMI for example).

So instead of the adapter, I'd need either a HDMI or DVI-D cable?

Yes, IF your monitor has the compatible ports.
If it does not have the actual DVI or HMDI port then it won't help changing the cable.
