A little back story
After getting a new computer custom built back in august (with the sale that was on it only cost me $50 extra to have the company build / ship it, and I'd never built my own computer before) I decided I'd get a samsung 840 evo 120gb ssd. I can't really complain about the boot speed for my hdd so I'd planned to just use the ssd as a secondary and toss games and more complex programs on it (due to the limited size). When I installed the drive I got the samsung magician / data migration installed and decided I might as well just clone the hdd to the ssd, boot with the ssd then delete any extra files on the ssd while keeping the OS installed on the hdd as a backup boot. Unfortunately even after gutting most of the transferred programs I was left with about 84gb/120gb used and only then read about the different formatting between ssd/hdd's that would make a fresh install better. At this point I was a bit frustrated, formatted the ssd, and have just been saving files to it as intended.

My question is whether this is an ok way to use the ssd, I'm not sure if I need to format it in any way to use it as is with the hdd as the boot drive or if there's any other setup issues. I'm also not sure if using it in this setup interferes with the ssd in anyway speed-wise. If it's fine to set it up this way I don't mind just using it in the way I intended with the hdd primary and ssd secondary, and not bother doing a fresh install of windows on the ssd so as to conserve space.

Thanks to anyone who took the time to read that chunk of text and has any advice!

There's nothing wrong with using a SSD as a secondary/storage drive.

That being said, I have been using an SSD as my O/S (boot) drive since 2009 and will never go back to using a HDD as a O/S drive. :)

But you said that you were satisfied with the performance of your HDD as a boot drive so that's all that really matters.
