Hey Everyone,

It's that time of year to start scouting for deals. I have decided that after 3 years, it is time to either upgrade my PC or look into getting something completely new. Could you let me know what I should focus most on when upgrading? Should I upgrade pieces of my current system or should I just sell it and start fresh? Lastly, if you could give me any rough idea on the price of the item I should upgrade to, that would be greatly appreciated!

Current System:

-Windows 7 Premium 64 bit
-Crosshair IV Formula Asus Motherboard
-AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Processor 3.21 GHz
-G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 1600
-Two Saphire Radeon HD 6950s
-Coolit Systems Eco CPU Water Cooling System
-XFX 850W Black Edition Single Rail Semi Modular ATX 12V 70A 24PIN ATX PSU 80Plus Silver
-Western Digital Caviar Green 500GB HDD
-Seagate Barracuda XT 7200 3TB
-AZZA Solano 1000 Case

I would have $500-$1,000 for upgrades and then of course if I was to start fresh, I'd have $500-$1,000 plus whatever I get from selling this system.

Thanks for any and all help everyone and I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Wait until Black Friday or Cyber Monday to buy stuff. I think NewEgg will have a 120SSD for $50

You can run 4 Monitors off 1 Card. You probably would need adapters. 2 monitors off 1 display port.

Might as well get the R280X for $300

If you are into Mantle AMD Tech to play new games.

Hmmm. So my motherboard is still okay? I just purchased the ram a few months ago, so I figured that would be fine. You basically hit the three things I wanted to upgrade (GPU, CPU and pick up an SSD).

I use 3 monitors though and sometimes 4 so I think I need 2 GPU cards, therefore would I have to replace both of my 6950s for 7950s?

Edit: Just did a quick check and saw this: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147247&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL112013CA&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL112013CA-_-EMC-112013-Index-_-SSD-_-20147247-L01A

Thoughts?

With two 6950's already, no point in going to a single 7950... and going to dual 7950's wouldn't be anywhere near enough of a performance boost to justify the price.

Other than that I'm with WarWolverineWarrior on the upgraded CPU and a 120/240GB SSD for OS (plus limited games as space allows).

In my opinion no point replacing a motherboard that can take a new, mid-high end, CPU. For every last bit of CPU performace you could swap the board and get an unlocked i5 or i7 (Ivy Bridge or Haswell) but you'd be looking at several times the price of a FX-83xx, your water colling setup won't work (without new CPU block), and wouldn't be that much faster in games.

$500 more than covers the CPU and a 240/256GB SSD, and you might even be able to sell the 1090T for a few bucks.

Awesome, very good information. I don't really have any games on my PC so I am pretty open for space. So I will check the prices of both 120 and 240gb SSDs, would you recommend waiting for Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals?

I always wanted to pick up an i7 but was often told it wasn't worth spending my money on. Typically when I am looking for PC parts I focus mostly on what is the most popular/most expensive not necessarily what is the most practical for me. It's good to know that if I was to upgrade to an i7, I would have to replace a whole lot more.

My mistake. My wording was fairly sad lol. I meant to say, so my best bet would be to upgrade to a 120/240gb SSD AND an FX-8150 processor?

Just clarifying that these two upgrades are the only two that are really needed atm.

Would it be worth underclocking? I am not familiar at all. I have never under or overclocked before nor have I used crossfire on my two gpus, at least I don't think.

Picked this up: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147247.

Anyone have any idea where I can get a good deal on the 8150? I assume it would be much better for me to get the 8150 instead of the 8350?

Thanks
