Hey im wondering about what version of windows runs faster on 256mb, windows 7 or xp? Some people say 7 runs so much better and some say the opposite. And I know xp is made for it but people run 7 on 256mb and they say its great. So has anyone had a windows xp machine that they put 7 on and it ran faster? Thanks ahead of time!
Anyone claiming to run Windows 7 on only 256 MB of RAM is 100%
lying. The
minimum requirement for the 32-bit version is 1 GB (4 times as much RAM)... & that's just a bare-bones "slogging through mud" experience, 2GB would be absolute minimum. 64-bit Windows 7 needs at least 2 GB, but again at least twice that (4 GB) for better performance.
In contrast, Windows XP's "minimum" was 64 MB; "recommended" was 128 MB, but I always found that 256 MB was the minimum for it to run smoothly.
So, in this case, Windows XP is
the choice -- in fact, the
only choice -- for running on a PC with only 256 MB of RAM.
