Hey im wondering about what version of windows runs faster on 256mb, windows 7 or xp? Some people say 7 runs so much better and some say the opposite. And I know xp is made for it but people run 7 on 256mb and they say its great. So has anyone had a windows xp machine that they put 7 on and it ran faster? Thanks ahead of time!

Anyone claiming to run Windows 7 on only 256 MB of RAM is 100% lying. The minimum requirement for the 32-bit version is 1 GB (4 times as much RAM)... & that's just a bare-bones "slogging through mud" experience, 2GB would be absolute minimum. 64-bit Windows 7 needs at least 2 GB, but again at least twice that (4 GB) for better performance.

In contrast, Windows XP's "minimum" was 64 MB...
I don't get the point of this question xp ran like poo with less than 1 gig of ram it never ran well with 256. Windows 7 is basicly junk under 2 gigs of ram. Unless you get a stripped down distro ( not legal most likely) 256 is not enough for any OS for the last 10 to 12 years.

In contrast, Windows XP's "minimum" was 64 MB; "recommended" was 128 MB, but I always found that 256 MB was the minimum for it to run smoothly.

So, in this case, Windows XP is the choice -- in fact, the only choice -- for running on a PC with only 256 MB of RAM.

I am also doubting any computer with 256mb of RAM will have drivers for Windows 7. The hardware will just be too old.

Windows 95 will too! 256mb was about average for Windows 98.

Love that sig! Can't say I ever really thought about it before but now I will always wonder just what the results of an Ambien and Ex Lax cocktail might be! :mouais: :vendredi:
