I need a good low-profile graphics card for my PC

Just to start, I know nothing of computer mechanics and have always been a console gamer, but as I'm studying to become a game developer I thought I should start PC gaming (with the massive modding communities that I can use to test my skills and get feedback on work). My PC is a stock Lenovo H520 series - i3 with a 6GB ram and 1 TB storage, and basic Intel HD graphics (which got a lot of non-PG13 comments from my friends). I was told by my friends that I need a low-profile graphics card as it is a slimline tower PC. I'm looking at less than £100 for it, and I've been told that Nvidia are the best. I'm also looking for something that can handle games like Skyrim and League Of Legends. What is the best card I can go for?

Hmmm... Well I guess that depends on what resolution your monitor is at and what graphics level you want to run the game at vs. what frame rate you'd be happy with.

This card should be able to do 1920x1080 at med settings in the 30-40 FPS range at least.
Again I'm no expert and I have only played Skyrim on PS3 to base this on.
