Hey guys,

Ok, before I start here are my system specs and what I run:

PC
- Intel core i7 920 @ 4GHZ - DEAD
- Asus Rampage 2 Gene motherboard - DEAD
- 6Gb gSkillz 2000mhz DDR3 Ram
- Two MSI GTX 660 Twin Frozr OC - (SLI)
- Samsung 840 pro 250GB SSD - Primary Drive
- Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid 1T - Storage Drive
- 1050W Modular Power Supply (OCZ I think)

Monitor
- Samsung 24" HD @ Max Resolution HDMI

Main Software + Games
- Adobe Photoshop CS6
- Adobe Illustrator CS6
- Auto desk 3DS Max 2014
- Battlefield 4
- Battlefield 3
- COD Ghosts

To cut a long story short my CPU and motherboard no longer work, I have tested them myself also at my local PC hardware store... I need new Motherboard and CPU.
I'm gutted because my trusty I7 920 and motherboard have served me nearly 4 years with out fail..they will be dearly missed :-(

As you can see I have all the necessary parts ram, gpu's, ssd... so i'm looking for a new Motherboard and CPU, my MAX budget is £150 ($242 aprox). I would ideally like to match or exceed the i7 920 performance overclocked. I will also consider AMD CPU's.

I listed above the games and software I use on a daily basis, Adobe software and 3ds Max I use for my work and are more important to me than maxing out games.

The motherboard needs to be SLI compatible and ideally I want a quad core cpu for multitasking, Its been 4 years since I have shopped around for hardware so I have no idea about what is new or good/bad on the market. I wish I had more of a budget to play with but I need a quick fix so I can start working again.

Any help would be appreciated peeps.

Adam

Your budget is too small. That amount would be enough to pay for a CPU and not much else. Also, you will need new RAM since you won't be using triple channel any more.

hmmm.. ok, well RAM is not a problem i already have a Dual channel 8GB Kit I originally purchased by accident so that's the ram problem solved. Your telling me that in the last 4 years no cpu's have been released INTEL or AMD that can match the performance of a i7 920? even on a £150 budget? ... something dosent sound rite in your comment

doesnt mater about RAM... you can only use 2x2 to make 4GB dual channel plus your 8GB in dual you could have 12GB if all RAM is the same specs...

i dont know how much costs in UK, but for now:
phenom II 965 + a good heatsink (hyper 212evo) to OC 4GHZ or more... if you can, go with FX83xx (FX8320 or 8350)
and a 99FX chipset for true 2 PCIe2 16x
like this one
https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A99FX_PRO_R20/#spec...

is important the mobo if not you cant use the full potencial of your GPU

and then you could upgrade with a FX 83xx
