I am seeing a price drop in i7 4770k, (available for 199$ at micro center)

My question is what motherboard and GPU goes best with it?

R9 280X, HD 7970? or GTX 780?(CORRECTION: GTX 770, 780 is way out of my budget)

I am looking forward to playing bf4 and COD ghosts. and I want my rig to be able run latest games for next 2 years at least.

Also is FX 8350 better than i7 4770K? Primary and only purpose is playing games, I use my macbook for all other work.

Of those three GPUs, I would go with the GTX 780. Would pair it with an ASUS Maximus VI Hero motherboard.

The 8350 is about on par with the 4670k, but the 4670k is still faster in most games, so the i7 is definitely better.

The i7-4770k is much better then the FX 8350 and the $199 price tag makes it a no brainer if you got the correct price. If your local store has that available then you should run there now and get it.
Currently the 280x and the 780 would be the top choices for the ones you listed and the motherboard mentioned above (Maximus VI Hero) or the Asus Saber tooth would be good choices.

Hi, thanks for the reply. What should i look for in a motherboard while buying? I actually built a machine on pcpartpicker:

CPU AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core $184.98
CPU Cooler Cooler Master DK9-7E52A-0L-GP $8.98
Motherboard Asus Sabertooth 990FX ATX AM3+ $191.62
Memory Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 $182.90
Storage Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM $74.98
Video Card HIS Radeon HD 7970 3GB $309.99
Case Cooler Master HAF 932 Blue ATX Full Tower $109.99
Power Supply Cooler Master 700W ATX12V / EPS12V $49.99
Optical Drive Asus BW-12B1ST/BLK/G/AS Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer $52.00
Operating System Microsoft Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit - OEM (64-bit) $139.99

Is it any good? Can I just replace the processor here?

I was personally going to go with the Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H mobo. A bit cheaper than the Asus' brand, although I don't know how they would compare. Still waiting on the graphic card to see if there's anymore discount around this time of the year.

There was this great deal on new egg for sapphire Radeon HD 7970, 239$ with mail-in rebate with 3 games free, but it's out of stock. I am looking for a good deal on GPU too, please let me know if you find one.

Replace the AMD CPU with the i7-4770k and get the Sabertooth for Intel to go with it.
The HD 7970 while still a good card is yesterdays technology. I would go with the r9-290 or the GTX 780.
The Cooler Master PSU is not the best and should be switched to a 750w Corsair .
16gb of ram is not needed for gaming , you can get 8gb and a 120gb SSD.

The CPU didn't show up as $199 from Microcenter so if you can get it for that price it will reduce the overall cost by $100.

Thanks a lot for making this build for me, I went ahead to micro center and bought the i7 4770K, they somehow convinced me to buy a motherboard(they were giving me 30$ discount on any motherboard I choose) so I bought the asus maximus hero vi for 170$. Did i get a good deal? I was also getting the asus sabertooth (z87 i think) for 210$, and I can go back and get any other motherboard and still get the discount? What should I do?

Again, thanks so much for picking out the parts, I actually went on their sales computer and went through this post to pick the maximus.

Now if only i could get a good deal on the GPU, GTX 780 and R9 290 are both so expensive, I was thinking of R9 280, or 7970, or gtx 770 maybe? 770 is only 2Gb and 280 and 7970 are both 3Gb, so please help me decide the best one for performance and value for money.

The Hero board will be just fine no need to go back and exchange unless it's something that you want to do. The 2gb of vram will be fine for a screen resolution of 1920x1080, if you were going with 2560x1440 then I would go with 3gb. Below is a link showing the Hierarchy chart for video cards . it will give you an idea of which cards are better then others.

Hi can you please recommend a case? here are the parts that I have already.

Will the cables provided with Maximus Hero VI be long enough for Thor V2?

Sounds like you are thinking about the Thor V2. A case is usually a personal choice as you do tend to want to like what it looks like. Cables provided by the motherboard and power supply will generally be long enough and in th event that there is something out of reach there are extensions that can be used.
