I was thinking about upgrading my CPU to get higher fps in Battlefield 4. I had a friend who told me it would not help but I don't know if that is true. I am currently running a AMD fx 6100 6 core 3.3 gh/z. I am wondering if it is worth upgrading to the AMD fx 8350 eight core 4.2 gh/z. So basically I am asking if it is worth the money and if it will help me some. Here are my specs:
Motherboard: Asus M5a97 le r 2.0
RAM: 8 gb 1600 single channel
CPU: AMD fx 6100 6 core 8.3 gh/z
GPU: MSI AMD r7950
Hard drive: 1 tb Western Digital.
PSU: Rosewill rd 600

Solution
Get an 8320 and OC it to 8350 speeds.

I had an FX 6200 (bulldozer) and was stuck in the same position you are. Upgraded to the 8320 (piledriver) and games run great.
It will increase your fps if your current CPU is bottlenecking your GPU. You may see some improvements during multiplayer if your fps are dropping too low because multiplayer is more intense on the CPU. But if your ok with your minimum fps I would not worry about it.

really i dont see a point in increasing your cpu unless your using windows 7 as bulldozer preforms worse on windows 7 then piledriver fx 6300 is basicly the newer version of your processor so the next step up would be fx 6350 even though not listed on the graph is probly a safe bet between the fx 8350 and fx 6300

if you go with fx 8350 it draws quite a bit more power then fx 6100 which will give you 8 frames more most likely on min

fx 6350 just my hunch would probly give the same because piledriver is better

Even the FX 6300 would be a huge increase over the FX 6100. The FX 8350 would be a tremendous upgrade. The 41xx, 61xx, and 81xx Bulldozer series FXs are terrible. The 43xx, 63xx, and 83xx Piledriver series is much much better. I'm telling you... trust me... even a FX 4300 would game better. The Bulldozers have TERRIBLE single core performance.

My best advice is get a FX 6300 for $119 or a FX 8320 for $159ish. You won't regret it.

Even the 6300 doesn't do particularly well:

Anything less then an 8350 is going to fail to get 60FPS on average.
