I'm looking to get a new graphics card at Christmas, and was wondering if any of the parts in my computer (EG. PCU or Motherboard) are going to restrict the performance on getting for example a GTX 780?
My Specs:
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit
CPU: Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67GHz
RAM: 14.0GB Triple-Channel DDR3 @ 534MHz (8-8-8-20)
Motherboard: Alienware 04VWF2
Graphics: 1792MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 (NVIDIA)
Any help would be greatly appreciated :D

A 780 might be a bit much for your CPU if your running it at stock. It may need to be overclocked. Being an i7 and a quad core is a plus but the stock Ghz is a bit low and may need to be bumped to so as to not cause a bottleneck. A GTX 770 would be a good fit.

I have looked at overclocking and to be honest i didn't have a clue what it was on about, so i wasn't really planning on doing that. Do you think if i was to buy a GTX 770 i would be able to run most games on ultra? (Wow, AC, COD ETC)

There will be games that you can and a few that you won't be able to. BF4 and Crysis3 might not but will run on high. To be honest it's not that important to run every game on ultra as there is very little difference between very high and ultra. It's more for bragging rights then anything. Just like getting 125fps vs. 60 or 70 fps , there is no discernible difference and you would only know the difference with a fps counter in the corner of the screen.
The GTX is a very powerful card and will do a great job with most games and even those that aren't great will be good.
