Console vs Steam pc build Can This PC be both?

I am looking to buy my pc upgrade tomorrow and was hoping for some thoughts and advice. I'm a pretty casual gamer (two babies under one and a seven year old teenager!) I like to play mmo's and fps online. my budget limits me to an AMD setup although I think if I stretch to 8 core it could benefit with the new console ports? I would also like to run the new steam operating system which i'm led to believe only trusts the Nvidia drivers. So here is my plan:

Fx 6300 or 8320 (worth those extra cores?)
Asus m5a97 r2.0 or msi 990fxa (do I need 990 if I don't intend on SLI?)
GTX 760 Asus or MSI gaming.

or stretch budget (really? it's Christmas and the misses will kill me)
i5 4570k
sub £100 motherboard (suggestions msi g45?)
GTX 760 asus or msi

I have around £400 to spend so my budget suits amd. I want Nvidia because of the drivers and reviews say they are far quieter than ati.
I currently have virgin broadband and use their modem. I also have an edimax 802.11 pci card. I don't want to be slowed down by the card or router. Should I upgrade or are these fine? my only other slot is for a creative sound card I have already.
I currently have a 1080p 22" tv but intend to upgrade to either IPS or 120 htz moniter in around 6 months if this helps. Its unlikely i'll overclock.
Any views/ feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

With a tight budget like that, stick with amd, probably the best would be Fx 6300 + gtx 760.
The problem is that the cpu / mobo / gpu will almost blow you budget. (you still need case, psu, memory and hard drive)
For £400, you might want to consider a ps4 for gaming.

I have all other components ready. I was originally going ssd i5 and 770 but feel my playing time and monitor etc is limited and I think a more sensible build would suit.
