Hey guys so scrambled up some money for a SSD, a TLC samsung evo one... since it's all I could afford. Concerned about its lifespan I used SSDReady to see how much writes my system makes and I noticed that about half of the data goes to "$LogFile", a file that belongs to the NTFS filesystem. The OS doesn't display files that start with "$" so I never knew about its existence.
Out of 30GB/day, 20GB were written to $LogFile. Apparently it's used to log every single transaction. So 1TB of useful data makes 2+TB of writes on the SSD due to $LogFile, $Mft and other NTFS files. I didn't mention the constant updates in registry and other system and program logs that cause most of the writes...
Is there a way to disable logging to $LogFile?
