Hi there,
I have a very specific hard drive setup I am trying to run on my Maximus VI Hero mobo in my video editing station.
SSD - OS/Programs/Pagefile
3TB HDD - Media and Project Files
2x 1TB HDD in RAID 0 - Media Cache/Scratch
1TB HDD - Misc files/music/documents/pictures
However, I'm looking at the Mobo user manual which says that it has 6 Intel sata ports and 2 Asmedia sata ports. Apparently it seems like the Asmedia chipset runs a little slower, so I'm trying to stay away from that one.
Now this is the issue. If I want to run all 5 hard drives (1 SSD, 2 single HDDs, 2 HDD in Raid 0) all off the Intel chipset, my understanding is that I need to set the SATA mode of the Intel chipset to "RAID". However, my worry is that it seems like the SSD would want "AHCI" as the mode and two of the HDDs won't be in a RAID configuration. Will setting the mode to "RAID" still allow the SSD to work in "AHCI" mode and not cause any issues with the single HDDs? And if so, when I first install Windows on the SSD (when it's the only hard drive plugged in), does that mean I need to have RAID selected at that point already? Or do I install Windows when the mode is "AHCI" and then switch the mode to "RAID" when I plug in the other hard drives?
I appreciate any help.
Thanks!
