Ivy Bridge-E 4820K optimal temps and VCore

Curious what the max safe operating temps are for the Ivy Bridge-E architecture, particularly the 4820K. Have scoured google and not found anything definitive. Have found a handful of sources vaguely stating "keep it under 75C" but nothing definitive. Intel website states Tcase is 66.8C, which conflicts with the small amount of reports I've found.

Excellent, this is good to know (if only everything on the internet was that straightforward). However, this now begs the question of what the Tjunction temp is for this particular processor? (it's not listed on the site with the other specs)

I did this (I tried just about every program I could find), and Core Temp said TJmax was 100C. I didn't think this was correct, although I'm not familiar with Intel processors and their 'typical' or 'safe' temps for an OC.

Part of my skepticism comes from the fact that I have been having mixed results with monitoring my CPU performance, as different programs seem to show either the Turbo Boost frequency or the base clock frequency, and nothing I have found will give me a real-time CPU frequency readout. I figured this was because Ivy Bridge-E was so new that the software hasn't caught up yet, but perhaps I'm just missing something?

This is exactly what I was looking for, thanks for all your help! I will have to fiddle with Windows power settings a bit I think, but will check out Core Temp again and see what I can do. I'm running a 4.5ghz overclock and working to get it stable, I can get about 3-4 hours out of it before BSOD so it's close at 1.3vcore. temps max out around 66C with a Hyper 212 EVO (this thing is great for the money!) and I am loving this processor.

You are awesome thanks again! Glad there are knowledgeable people out there willing to help and give solid information

hi m8 you should easy do 4.5ghz with the right cooling with a bclk 122.0mhzx37 and the boost set at x39 4.7ghz with the boost and i have set my vcore to 1.450v have a look so your ram dont run to fast run up the cpu but pull ram back to 1333 or 1600mhz then work your way up slowly .when uping the Bclk your ram comes up as well so you have to manualy pull dem down your self .
The oc i use is the one i wrote about an im not hitting 70c running prime95 small fft for 4hours
i think i toped out at 65c on hottest core im running corsair H110 cooling
just running 1.450v at the moment for testing higher settings on the Bclk
will start down volt it to the minimum it can run on with these settings will come back and give you more inf about the v later after a couple of days of stabillity testing

Thanks for the tips man, yeah just figured out my PSU is failing so just purchased a new one lol. I should be hitting my target clocks in about 4-7 business days (newegg supersaver shipping lol)

I am using a hyper 212 EVO - fairly solid cooler IMO. For the OC's I tried before realizing the PSU was shot I hit 4.6ghz (100x46 multi) and only hit about 69-70C after p95 for 2 hours (before it would crash). I'm not too worried about temps really

For PSU I did some research and ended up going with PC Power & Cooling SIlener MK III 850W. Solid reviews and manufacturing, one of the top brands according to a few different sources (up there with SeaSonic, Antec, Corsair, etc... They said typically PCP&C is rebranded SeaSonic so I'm good with that lol)

I have been OC'ing AMD for years, however this is my first Intel build. Any tips for OC'ing on an Intel platform? The research I've done so far for Ivy Bridge-E states 1. don't mess with BCLK as it can become unstable quickly (however I don't know much about 'strapping' so if you have any information about that I would appreciate it), 2. leave the power saving features and turbo on and use the multi to get the max clock up (I like this approach, as I would prefer less of an OC that can fluctuate the voltage and frequency over a slightly higher OC that I would have to keep at a steady high voltage the entire time)

Hi m8 sorro for talking soo long i goot my alpha cool 280mm x80mm rad (for the gpu R9 290X runs hut and loud)yesterday almost had to take my flex out to get it in soo have been leek testing modding cables and lowering my vcore att the moment im running 122x39
4.5+ghz total with turbo 4.7+ghz 1.38v as low state and 1.42 on high state
straps are atleast in my bios pre set to 100 Bclk ,125 Bclk, 166 Bclk, 250 Bclk , how i have under stod it is working like a divider since the express lanes are linked to the cpu and there speed should be @90 to 110 so the strap gives a divider 100/1=100 ,125/1.25=100 and so on
and as well a power setting .but after straping like me to the 125 i lower the Bclk to 122 then the vcore from 1.45 to 1.38 will go even lower but at the moment i want to have a beer and play BF4 :)
Ps @ 1.38 im hitting 47c with prime95 after 4 hours
idle temps are aroun 26 to 29c ambient 18 to 20c

HI, so i OCed my i7 4820k to 4,3 GHz with a Vcore 1,185 ..(lower then default 1,2)...and its stable (i got this idea from a reviewer.. who had it on 1,17 for 4,3 and made benchmarks for this..).
So i have IntelBurnTest and i ran it for an hour on max.. is it assurance of stability? (...so far i had no problems with it..). Should i run it over night?.. max temperature with this setting is 60 degrees C with 212 Evo on a hot summer day..
Whats your opinion about this guys? Do you foresee some problems i dont? ..is it possible it lowers performance without crashing.. so i wouldnt know..?
