I have 2x4Gb of RAM in my computer, but my computer only says that I have 4Gb of RAM. I switched the stick around one at a time and each worked. Since the sticks are in the 2nd and 4th slots, as recomended for my mobo, should i put them in the 1st and 3rd or do something else?

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 2 x 4GB
Mobo: ASUS F2A85-M PRO FM2 AMD A85X

Can try it, think I'd suggest pulling the sticks, make sure the contacts are clean (rubbing alcohol and foam swabs work well - don't use the oft suggested erasers (can leave the gummy substance on the contacts) or Q-tips (often leave cotton fibers)...also blow out the DRAM slots with compressed air if available...might also raise DRAM voltage in the BIOS by + 0.05....another thing to look at without going to deep into it is your CPU cooler, if too tight could be affecting the MC (memory controller - just ran into this day before...

Some motherboards will only see the first stick in order from slot 2, 3 and 4 so if 2 is the first one you have a stick in, it may not see the 2nd stick. If this is the case, it means you need to have 1 & 3 populated and it should see both.

If/when you run slots 2 & 4, too, it should see all 4 sticks. If it doesn't then you have a bad slot.

It's also possible you simply didn't have the stick pushed all the way in. There's only a small gap needed for the connection to be lost.

Good hunting!

1-3 yielded the same results as 2-4. Would putting a stick in each slot, one at a time, work to try and isolate the problem, or would the mobo need the stick in a certain slot if it is by itself?

I had said that I tried that configuration as a reply to one of Christopher's posts, but he deleted it and thus my comment was accidentally lost.

Back on topic, does anybody have any ideas of what to do?

Tradesman, asking you again.

Problem 1- I had sticks in 2 & 4. Was showing only 3.90GB instead 8. Now while I put those in 1 & 3, it worked! What's the deal? I carefully noticed that the 2nd slot's RAM was properly fitted. Is there any other explanations?

Problem 2- On the other hand, my motherboard speaker gives one long BEEP and 3 short BEEPS. Why? Video card problem?

So, what did happen back then you think 1 & 4 which are black & black, did work but 2 & 4 didn't. Why's so? Dual channel can do anything but two different of showcasing really baffled me and still is.

Disturbing you again, if the motherboard speaker makes 1 long BEEP and 3 short beeps, should I change the graphics card or it could be another problem? Confused. (M5A97 R2.0 MoBo)
