I have the 64 bit version of windows 8.1, when I look in the task manager programs are being run in the 32 bit format. Why is that, and is there a way to fix that? I have looked at the program files most have downloaded as a 32 bit format. I haven't seen a way to choose 32 or 64 bit in a program download. Thank you in advance for any guidance and assistance.

This, and the fact that you may need to hunt to find the x64 version of a program. Sometimes websites have this listed as "other versions"

Many programs that now have a "64-bit version" aren't even 64-bit; instead they have the ability for the installer to recognize the OS is 64-bit and instead of installing to "c:\Program Files\whateverprogram" they use the 64-bit version of the same directory, "c:\Program Files (x86)\whateverprogram".

Thank you for your help. I didn't realize that the 64 bit "versions" aren't exactly a primary format for most programs. Everything runs just fine, I just finished my PC build and wasn't sure if I had made a mistake during the process of getting everything up and running. Sorry for the silly question I have been on the mac side of the world for a while and am still learning to ride again on windows side. Again Thanks!!
