PC is freezing, maybe related to OS?

A few weeks ago I installed a Samsung 840 Pro SSD and installed Windows 7 on that drive, using my old (but reformatted) 1tb 7200rpm HDD as storage. A problem started occurring where the computer would freeze for a few seconds after I had been using the computer for an hour or so. It will freeze for a few seconds then freeze again a short time later. If I am just typing then it never freezes, but if I'm surfing the web or playing a game etc. it freezes. As far as I know, all of my drivers are up to date. I am running a gtx 560 (possibly the driver is too new and causing problems?), i5 3570k, Gigabyte z77 ud5h mobo, and XFX 750w psu on my computer that I am having trouble with. Sometimes when I go to shut the computer down it will start to shut down and then I have to hold the power button to finish shutting it down.
Does anyone have any idea what is wrong or what I should do? Thanks for any help.

It's your SATA Mode.

You have to go into your Bios and switch your Sata Mode from IDE to AHCI. That should fix your problem. Note: If you can't boot up into windows, you may have to reinstall your O.S. but I've heard many who can simply switch between the two with no problem.

I just checked and I already had it set to AHCI... I also had to use a keyboard that doesn't require a driver in order to enter the bios settings.

Yes, but I can't remember for sure if I set it to that before or after the OS was installed on the SSD if that matters (I think I set it to AHCI before).

hmmm... check your CPU temps. What is the temp when it is freezing up? (You can use a program called HW Monitor) That problem is usually a Sata Mode problem 9/10 so if you're sure it's in AHCI mode and you're still experiencing the problem then it could be something overheating.

I checked the temps after 10 mins of BF3 gameplay and the CPU temp was at 45C. I have a hyper 212+ heatsink on it... the gpu was at 70C (I have the Gigabyte model with three fans so it always runs cool).
Also, I have tried turning off the PSU and reconnecting the cables but that didn't do anything... Bad Sata cable maybe?
