Well I would check on a few other websites, for reviews about the laptop to be honest.
Obviously you wanted a laptop that could display 3D on the screen.
But in reading the way it was typed on the link you provided.
It was stating it was a laptop that was capable of playing 3D games via the Nvidia card fitted to it.
And not relating to the actual Screen display of the laptop.
The card fitted is quiet high end, and the memory config is good at 12Gb.
Plus the screen size is quiet big at 17.4 inches.
You also have an i7 intel cpu and they are not cheap, and a very good cpu to have.
I would say it was a fair price for a gaming laptop.
So I don`t think you were cheated for the price.
In fact I would be happy with the specs, Laptops are always going to be slightly more expensive.
And indeed are when it comes to a high end one used for gaming, in mind of it`s other uses.
Some places are selling it for $ 1999 so if you payed $1700 you did alright.
