8 Gigs in use with 8 reserved

Hey fellas, I render videos for different side etc, and was wondering how to speed up the compressing process and figured I needed 16g for it. Well I already had 16g on my homebuilt so I wondered why it was a problem and found out its only using 8. I've head on win7 home it only always 8 and if so is there a way to change that?

Any help would be great,

Maximum ram supported for Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit is 16GB.
How many ram do you have your 16GB setup, is it 4x4GB, 2x8GB, 2x4GB+1x8GB?
Go to msconfig and Boot, Advanced Options.
Check if max ram is enabled. If yes disable it.

Msisomething somethig.for the motherboard

I know that all the parts will work with eachother like ex: motherboard can handle up to 31gbs of ram

Can you post a picture of the ram usage. Have you try another slot?

Should be able to find mobo and DRAM model/part numbers by using CPU-Z (free utility program)

the max ram box is unchecked and still nothing what now?

try 1 stick of ram at a time to see if it detects it as 8GB each

Did it show anything in the part number of the SPD tab - that's where the DRAM part number should be

Could be you have bent the CPU Pins when you installed the CPU, inattention to details leads to things like that

I did bend them and plane on replacing the cpu soon. could that be the problem?

Most definitely, and it happens quite often, I carry a set of razor blades in my tool bag whose only use is to straighten pins on AMD CPUS, best way I've found to get them to full extention and to properly gain full contact when reinserted
