Workstation PC under $1500 and $2000

Paolo Qui,

Here is a system idea based on the very fast Xeon E5-1620 V2 (3.7 / 3.9GHz) and on a Gigabyte C606 chipset motherboard. I prefer LGA2011 to 1155 or 1150 as the memory bandwidth is double, supports 64GB instead of 32, and there are more PCIe lanes. In my view, an SSD is not a very important advantage in this kind of work, especially if the files are kept on a mech'l storage drive anyway, but one could be added if needed. This list includes Windows 7 Professional >
