hello

I've decided to buy a Gigabyte r9 280x card instead of the 270x, I'd like to ask if that PSU will be enough for that?

thanks in advance

FSP make great power supplies, yours puts out 42amps on the +12v rail. The R9 280X wants 30amps, and for Watts you are right at the border, but since you have a high quality PSU I'd say it can handle it.

At some point, you might want to consider an upgrade just to give yourself some more headroom, especially if you are overclocking.

im not really an expert on this but if im not wrong minimum for gigabyte 280x is 600 watts.. i think it should work but maybe u ll push ur psu to the limit...
I m about to buy 270x in the next days but not sure yet if i should spend some extra bucks on 280x from xfx cause it comes with bf4.
why r u choosing the gigabyte version??

jimthenagual:
well, i'm about to buy the PSU aswell, but in my country, prices are crazy (this FSP 550w is nearly 85$) and since I'm on a budget, this is the one I could afford (if i'm buying the 280x...)
I'm not planning to OC, I'd have an i5-4570 and a H87 mobo with it

brian84ar:
the Gigabyte is the cheapest 280x I can get, the 2nd least-expensive Sapphire Dual-X is like 40$ more

btw, giga's site indeed says 600W, but i found a test which shows the whole system's(!!!) power consumption with a Giga 280X card during Metro2033 is 291W
here's the picture

do you have anything againts Gigabyte?

i ve never owned a gigabyte product but ive heard they r good.
they only reason i would go for the other card is bcause bf4 is included and it s onky 20 bucks more expensive on newegg.
Anway i might go for 270x cause im making a cpu, mb, memory upgrade also and 280x is pricy for my budget.. we ll see what i can get on black friday
