Just purchased a Windows 8 computer that I am trying to connect to my HDTV via HDMI. The problem is that my monitor and tv go total blackscreen as soon as the connection is made. My graphics card is AMD Radeon HD 7660D. It has been updated with the newest drivers. I know the HDMI cable is good because I can connect my Windows 7 computer to the HDTV and everything works perfect. Any suggestions?

Solution
Check the graphics options to see if the second screen is seen. It may need to be manually enabled, and also check your TVs native resolution and set the video options to that on the second screen. Keep in mind that if you use the CLONE option to show the same thing on both screens, you will need to use the lowest resolution both screens support. If you EXTEND the screens, you can run them at separate resolutions.

Also check the laptop vendor for any updated drivers for video and chipset.
