Hey everyone,

Is there a noticeable performance difference for the i5 and i7 if they are both overclocked to 4.5ghz?

I understand that they both have 4 cores but the i7 has 4 more virtual, so the question is, if they are both clocked at the same speed will the i7 be an advantage?

Thanks for the quick answer.
If I can get the i7 for $50 more than the i5 is it worth it? And I do all sorts on my pc video editing, gaming, just multi purpose

agree with mr assassin..

Gaming, office productivity, you'll not see the difference, i7 just slightly faster than i5..
But in multithread intensive program, like rendering, movie editing and converting, 3D application, the difference is huge..

for $50 difference, i'll grab i7..
always grab the best that you can afford,,

They're the same architecture so clock-for-clock they'll perform the same in single-, double-, triple- and quad-threaded applications. Any programs that can potentially use more threads, like the ones mentioned above, will definitely perform far better on the i7. Even better on 6/12 physical/logical CPU, like the i7-4960x .
