Recently purchased a R9 270x hawk, monster of a card... only problem is I still have a bulldozer 4100 farting away costing me my precious frames. It's blatantly obvious it's time to upgrade, the killer question... AMD or Intel? dundundun D:

My specs at the moment:
12gb Kingston Hyper genesis X @ 1600mhz
AMD 4100 happy meal edition @ 4.1ghz
R9 270x Hawk @ fast
MSI AM3+ mobo
750w xfx core psu - non modular
windows 8 :( 64bit

I would rather not have to dosh out the extra cash for a mobo switch just for intel, but if it's really worth it then I'll start stacking the pennies. What do you guys think is a good cpu to go with the 270x?

Solution
Thought as much, same with mine I think.

Anyway, there's no need for it. It has ridiculously high power draw anyway. I'd say for you, get an FX 8320 but if you want an 8350 then go for it, no real difference other than price I've found.

Honestly my budget is as big as it needs to be, I think £150 is a reasonable price, but if more is required than that's not a huge problem.

Go with an FX 8320 mate. Got one, it works absolutely great. Same performance as an 8350 just clocked lower at stock. And costs like £40 less! Get a nice air cooler like a Hyper 212 EVO along with it if it fits in your case.

I was thinking of the 8320, shouldn't need to upgrade my cpu cooler hopefully, it keeps the 4100 at 20-30 degrees (idle) running at 4.1ghz, but then the 8320 does have twice as many cores.

What about the 9370, whats the difference between that and the 8000 series?

I actually don't hate windows 8 (I rather like it :p), and I will upgrade to 8.1 when amd start pumping out whql drivers for it. I've just had some issues with windows 8 and drivers so that's the reason for the sad face :D.

8320 it is then, atm the 4100 is a huge bottleneck with it only being a dual core... and ever so slightly terrible :p Don't suppose you play any battlefield games do you, our systems are quite similar (when I get the 8320) I was just wondering what kind of fps you get with your current setup.
