I have recycled a Dell XPS 420, the oem disk started squeking, so i put new ones in, however it now only recognizes one disk on one certain sata port, no bd-rom, no ssd, no 1tb disk etc. Only one 500GB drive, if i put the ssd on same sata port i is recognized. If i unplug everything still nothing is recognized on other sata ports on mobo. Changed cables, ram, and the funny thing is all components are fine in old pc. With only one 500 MB disk and win 8.1 pc is running fine, no bd-rom or extra disks though.

Strange. I have a XPS 420 for watching movies myself, but I've never touched the SATA ports or bothered to install an SSD due to them only being SATA II

Could you check the BIOS and see if more than one STORAGE DEVICE is supported? (Check infor boxes if any)

Only thing I can think of is that the XPS mobo or/and processor supports a limited number of SATA storage or/and devices
