Hey, I'm trying to get my (brand new!! =D) ASUS PB278B to display on 1440p from my laptop via HDMI 1.4a. My laptop is running a GTX 650M, so I believe it SHOULD support this resolution, and IIRC, HDMI 1.4a also supports it, but nothing I can find gives me the option to set it above 1080p at 1440p.

Yes the GT 650M can (You have GT 650 not GTX 650 btw)

But, can your version of Windows?

What operating system are you running? You can find this info under the control panel.

Hmm I'm not sure of this, but your monitor might be sending information through the HDMI cable to your GPU that it's 1080p, and therefore you can't set higher than 1080p.

Try messing around with the monitor settings and see if you can set the resolution mode to 1440p or something...

Just a thought.

AwesomeFX, I do not really get what you mean. I'm quite new to messing around with external monitors as this is really the first one I got for my laptop, and I haven't really had a desktop I've used myself in ages (at lest 6 or 8 years). What do you mean mess around with the monitor settings? Which one? I've tried everything that seems readily apparent: I've tried using the W7 screen resolution option and I've even tried it through the intel manager.

Nope, only one port. And my drivers are relatively up to date. I last updated my drivers a few months ago. So, maybe, I'm a driver update or two behind, but nothing that I think would affect this.

Hmm, try using a DVI cable instead.

(Fat, big video cable)
