Hi all,

I recently purchased an asus gtx 770.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121770

However, it sags a lot in my case. I decided to use a ziptie to attach the GPU powercord to another cord that is more elevated than my gpu in order to elevate the GPU and make it more even in my case. Does this seem like a good solution to take some of the pressure off of the pci-e slot and prevent the video card from sagging so much? Is it OK to ziptie the GPU power cord to a higher cord to elevate my GPU? The top part of the GPU is the PCB, and the bottom part is the fans and pipes/heatsink. The GPU power cord is on the top part with the PCB. It looks like the two parts of the GPU are connected by screws in the middle. Is my solution sufficient?

Thanks!

Solution
As long as you don't damage the PCB you can use any solution you choose and a zip tie is one way to do this. I remember a few years back when 3DFX made these cards that were so long you had no choice but to zip tie the back end. As a matter of fact I purchased a computer from Falcon North west which is a high end computer maker and the 3DFX card came zip tied inside the computer from them.

You can also go from the bottom of the case with a length of pipe, something 1/2 inch or 3/8 inch and paint it black and have it support the card from below. Even a piece of wood would work also painted black.

Ziptie on the power cord should be fine. If you want to be very safe you could get a super long ziptie and have it wrap around the entire sagging end of the card.

The Cardkeeper... might not fit your card. The card protrudes well beyond the bracket screws. Look at that 3rd image of the card at newegg.

Well, I ended up zip tying a little black notch that appears to be part of the gpu's frame that covers the gpu fans on the bottom part of the video card and making a chain of zip ties connected to a part of my case. It seemed sturdier than zip tying the gpu power cord to another cord, and my card is almost completely straight now. I think this is a good solution.
