Boot waits for keystroke before giving me speaker sound

I have an SSD and I like how fast it can boot up my pc, but sometimes the ASUS z68v pro will give me the asus logo then freeze until I press any key on the keyboard which is when it gives me the beep from the motherboard speaker and then the boot up process actually starts.

This is annoying because it pretty much beats the purpose of booting up fast with an SSD. I looked at the BIOS settings I dont see anything unusual. Anybody know what this may be?

No, but my guess would be a BIOS setting you didn't see or misread the description of.

"but sometimes the ASUS z68v pro will" - This is strange. Computers are like rocks, they don't change or do anything unexpected unless something else than themselves do it.

In the BIOS, there should be an option to skip keyboard wait on non-fatal errors. Enable that and it should get rid of the pause unless something actually requires your attention.

I had that problem sometimes with my previous PC due to low CPU fan speed. For some reason, the rotation sensor was skipping pulses every now and then, causing speed to momentarily register as either 0 or much lower than usual some of the time.

I see one called "wait for F1 on error" and it is enabled. I didnt think of disabling it because when this happens to me it never really asks for F1 specifically. It is just like a press of any key.

Oh I did remove the side panel permanently and just left my case open on a side and it had a fan on that side. So maybe if I disable the fan monitoring it fixes it. I will also disable the "F1 when error" thing just in case I guess?

Yeah try that

I think the removed fan is causing the problem

I did both and it is still happening. I noticed it only happens on cold boots. This is so strange. There doesnt really seem to be an error. I already set fan monitoring to "ignore", and I disabled "Wait for F1 if error".

There is also "disable asus logo" which I already tried disabling (before changing the "F1" thing and the "ignore fans" options), and all that would happen is instead of waiting for my keystroke with a logo it would just freeze with a black screen.

I will try disabling the logo now that i have disabled the other two things and see what happens just to test it out.

I also know that the beep I always get after pressing a key is always a single short beep, which means everything is okay according to online sources. Therefore this is some strange thing maybe caused by my keyboard? I changed to a razer reclusa keyboard a short time ago. I dont know if it is possible that this keyboard may be causing this?

It is still not solved.

I disable "Wait for F1 if error"
I set all fan monitoring to "ignore"
I disabled "ASUS Boot Logo"

And all I get now is a black screen on most cold boots. And I don't get the single short beep (meaning everything is Okay) until I press any key on my keyboard.

Ok I found out it has something to do with something called the OP ROM. Out of curiosity I was looking it up and I bumped into this video. You must set it from "Force BIOS" to "Keep Current"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSLtAlzHWD8

I will try this and see if it fixes the problem. Can anybody help me understand what OP ROM is?

Because I am also getting a POST screen related to my Marvell Controlled SATA Ports which tells me that if I have anything plugged into those ports and quite frankly it is a waste of boot time. I already know what I have plugged into which sata port and I dont care for reading it everytime I boot up.

Can anybody help me understand what option rom means? I I see I can toggle "Disable Marvell storage OPROM" and I am wondering if this will get rid of that stupid POST screen.

UPDATE: Just go ahead and Disable JMB Storage Controller and Marvell controller Completely. I think this may be the fix. The following stuff is still recommended but it only speeds up boot up and did not actually fix the boot up freezing until keystroke (As I initially thought it had).
I suspect the non-intel storage controllers are the cause.

Recommended Settings for Asus P8z68 V Pro:

"Option ROM messages" to "Keep Current"
"PCI priority" to "EFI Compatible" (I am not sure if that helps much but I think it is a better setting anyway).
"Display Option ROM in Post" (Under JMB Storage Controller) to "Disable".
NOTE: If you are not using either your eSATA nor your Marvell SATA 6G ports (not recommended to use them anyway as they are very slow, then just go ahead and DISABLE both the JMB Storage Controller and the Marvell Storage controller)
"Legacy USB" to "Disable"

I think all the ASUS fullscreen logo does is hide the POST tests while they happen, so if you can still find a way to skip certain POST screens or steps through BIOS settings, then the ASUS logo will disappear faster and make boot up not only "look good" but also be faster.

IF somebody here can explain to me in simple terms what OP ROMS are for i would appreciate.

The problem is the Microsoft "Razer Powered" Reclusa Keyboard. I was reading around, and it seems to be causing a lot of different boot up issues for different people depending on their motherboard brand. I disabled num lock on the keyboard and in the BIOS. I only activate num lock when I need to use it then disable it again. I think this may help.

It seems as though my keyboard is off at boot up and it does not turn on until I press a key, thus freezing my boot up procedure until I press a key during the POST tests.

Does anybody out there have a similar issue with a reclusa keyboard? Anybody?
