It will fry it for sure - for a 300W graphic card you will need at least a 500W PSU . . . my question is why put such a powerful graphics card in a computer that is a pre-built unit - it may be a bit mismatched with your CPU - think jet engine in a Pinto.

the EVGA 8400 GS only draws a bit above 70 watts on full load, you should have no problems

wattage is not a problem, but current rating might be, look on your power supply and see if you can find out what it's +12 volt continuous current rating is? You'll need it to supply 18 Amps

Question - you stated initially that your graphics card was 300W - that is a powerful graphics card as ven the best these days draw around 250W - what are you actually planning on using for a graphics card? In general HPs Dells etc. are generally fitted with very weak cheap PSU's in fact there may not even be any PCIE power supply cables on it to provide to power the graphics card - what are you hoping to be able to do or achieve by installing a graphics card. Most pre-built computers are built to a price - they are not designed with future upgrading in mind. Most of us started with pre-built computers but have rapidly figured out self build is the way to go.

ok - 8400GT should be ok - it should be able to draw power through the PCIE slot (75W limit). Bear in mind this is not a card for gaming

if you want to game you'll have to go for something a bit more expensive, such as some of the older GTX models (500 series) or Radeon 6000/7000 series

again though, check the Amp rating on your power supply, that will more likely determine what graphics cards you can get than anything else

You wont be able to play games with that GPU, buy an hd 7750 (your power supply wont matter) and you will be able to play them on medium-high

agreed with bitspirit, if you want to play battlefield on low at playable resolutions i would say go for an hd 7750, it's not as cheap as the 8400, but will run games MUCH better, with an 8400 I'm not even sure if you can play BF4 at low with a 800x600 resolution

this one is only 50 dollars after MIR

You will not be able to play any new games AT ALL with that GPU a 7750 is the only gpu you can put in that system that will let you play games on low-mid for demanding games and mid-high for less demanding ones.

I recommend you get BF4 for the PS4 instead then, and leave the PC gaming for a while until you can upgrade your computer

ok - so we have confirmed you do want to game. What resolution is your monitor?

an 8400GS is only about the same as typical on-board graphics - in my opinion a complete waste of money

If so please review this article for recommendations on cards. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-car...

Once you have pick it will likely be something running 125 - 200W in which case I would strongly advise upgrading your PSU to at least 450W

Agree with lmaonade200 - PC gaming at a decent level can get quite expensive - its easy to blow through $600-$1500 building a gaming computer and $600 is the entry level . . . . . just the price of admission.
