My control panel says I have Java 7 Update 9 but when I go to run Minecraft it says it acquires a run time of 1.60 what does that mean?

Dude, go update your Java now! The one you have is very, very old! Like over a year old!! Hackers can easily own your computer in seconds.

No, Update 9 is old. Java 7 is on Update 45 now.

But every time I go to download the newest version it says the file was corrupted before it could finish downloading.

I have come across viruses which prevent you from downloading the latest Java Update this way. Where are you trying to download the update from? Go to the Java site and grab the real one and give it a try.

Go here and select the appropriate one, don't do the auto update thing: https://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Then there is something wrong with your internet, your browser, or your system. I just downloaded it fine. I would REALLY suggest you getting Java updated before you worry about playing Minecraft.

Java is incredibly vulnerable. A year old version has so many security flaws on it it's unbelievable.
