Hello i recently figured out why some of my games were acting funny or not working at all , it was having the processor overclocked.
AMD FX-8350 ocBlack edition 4.0GHz 8-core CPU
i was running her at 4519.81 mhz 1.375v completly stable never crashed and even passed 3d mark 11 tests repeatedly . running at a 53c no throttle while in game with cpu load and 29-31c at idle without thorttle. Also the cores are all unlocked. it is nice and fast but seems unable to process correctly. I herd of people pushing these to like 4.9 or 5 ghz stable.

These are some of the games that i have installed which isnt many but was having problems with and the problems i was having

Planetside 2 --- Stuttering not smooth movment every couple seconds i would drop lots of frames and it would stutter so if i was tracking an enemy in my sites made if verry hard to do .

Blacklight Retribution
Completely unplayable ,game would not run period ! would not pass the loading screen and was giving me all kinds of crash errors. and crashed every single time .

Games seemly uneffected by the over clock

Star Trek Online, max settings

Far cry 3 blood dragon

Can anyone explain why this was happening when the processor seemed completly stable. I was using amd catylast to overclock the cpu.

thanks, for your input on overclocking this processor and making it stable to run games un-effected while overclocked

That is so true about the BIOS. And unless you ran prime95 on 9 or 10 priority for like 10 hours u don't know that ur really stable..plus ur games don't run rright so I doubt its really stable..

bump , i understand that software unlocks may not be stable according to some, but my phenom 2 965 black edition 3.4 ghz never had any problems what so ever running at 3.8ghz gaming or otherwise. IS there something in particular with the fx processor i may be un aware of when i comes to overclocking or what not.

No but your motherboard plays a big role in it. Have u seen the guide at overclockers.com? Search Google for bulldozer and piledrive overclock guide. Def some useful tid bits there. Couldn't get stable until I read through it twice

Well that was a different processor, this one may not work as well with overclocks. Just because it worked one time on a different chip doesn't mean it will work on all chips. Overclock in the bios or not at all. Software overclocks (unlocking is different) are bad, they are unstable, and even if you get one good overclock with one, that just means everything went perfectly. Just don't do it, you can fry your chip, it may not work, or it may cause unstability. Also, run Prime95 to test, preferably overnight. Benchmarking isn't the best way to test it. I'd be happy to help you overclock in your bios.

The latest Bios for my board indicate raid rom update version, IS this necessary to update ? my bios date is 7-15-13 the update i mentioned above is 7-22-13.
i am currently in the process of updating all system drivers with driver max, still have 6 out of date, i can only download 2 a day for free.

currently using the stock cooler, but will be upgrading it soon. currently it sits at 28c with no throttle cores unlocked turbo disabled power saving features disabled at 4117.97 mhz through the bios.
