i7 Core 4960X v i7 Core 4770K

In the process of building a new PC. Funding it is not the issue. Would like great performance for a number of years. Should I do a Haswell i7 Core 4770K or the Ivy Bridge-E i7 Core 4960X? I can post the proposed build but would like some opinions on the CPUs, as I have a build for each CPU right now.

More about core 4960x core 4770k
  1. The 4960x, there is zero question if what you want is pure performance. It is by far the most powerful CPU in exsistance right now as it has 12 effective cores (4770k only has 8) and it has more than double the PCIe data lanes and L3 cache, plus it can use quad channel memory setups and is really quite simply the best CPU one can get right now. I have a 3930k (last gen and one level below) and the only thing that can beat it is he 3970x and the 4970x. If you overclock this CPU (total overkill) it will would be truly unrivaled.

  4. Opt for the 4930k if you don't need the extra L3 cache that the 4960x has. In most cases, you don't.

That's what I did. Not quite finished with the build, but when I am I will post the link. Happy Holidays.

The rig posted here, no. I have made some major changes. Doing all this by my hand. Has been a major project. Rethinking my power requirements and things like that. Want to make sure this is not an epic fail and runs perfectly. Many hours invested and many dollars so far. Will post the final one when I finish it after my mother board water block gets in. More to come. Renamed my rig Grey Beard.
