Highly Bizarre Video Behavior

I'm losing my sanity a little here. For some odd reason whenever I play video, my computer freezes. It happens like clockwork about 20 seconds in, but what's weird is that this only happens on video and not while gaming or doing any other graphics intensive tasks (photoshop, flashbuilder, sketchup etc.)

To make matters more confusing, this happens both on local video files as well as online video streaming.

This happened once before last week, but about an hour ago started happening consistently, every time I tried to play any video.

What I've done so far:

1) CMOS reset
2) UEFI reset to default
3) Moved my SSD and HDD satas into the intel slots (from third party asrock)
4) Bumped ram mhz up from 1333 to 1600
5) Updated Nvidia driver

My build:

i7 3770k, asrock z77 extreme 4, gtx 770, 16gb gskill ares ram

I don't think this is a graphics issue considering all games at ultra settings still run perfectly. Maybe I'm wrong. I thought it might have something to do with codecs since that's specific to video but again not really sure. Any help or insights here would be greatly appreciated.

Well sometimes a virus scan will not come up with anything. Is there any chance that you could do a clean windows installation? At least, you will eliminate any software or virus issues..

hmm don't think so but ill run security essentials and malware bytes...I just restored my system to two days ago, going to test out. A problem that I noticed over the past 20 minutes is that the computer has started to freeze doing other tasks...im wondering if its a mobo issue.

So at this point the system restore seems to have done the trick...seems to have been something settings/configuration related? I don't know, but hopefully it continues to run without issue.
