I'm looking for a card upgrade on my pc. I have an HP P6710F with a GeForce GT 430 and a new PSU (I forget specific wattage, but it's useless as I plan to upgrade with my GPU)

I'm wondering what the best card for playing games like WoW, Bioshock Infinite, Fallout New Vegas, and others would be for my system. I'd prefer a cheaper one, but anything you think will work would be appreciated.

I was looking at the Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition 1GB, found at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202011 , simply because the one I was looking at before was a bit too expensive (Radeon HD 7850).

Would that run WoW and other listed games at around high with 60 fps? I'm not looking for perfection, and I'm willing to look at others.

Thanks!

What's your exact budget?

There's pretty good deals right now with cheap 7870s and cheap 7850s

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

Video Card: MSI Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB Video Card ($129.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($29.99 @ Microcenter)
Total: $159.98
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

That 7870 should have absolutely no problems with the games you mentioned at 60FPS

Solution

If you say resolution such as 1080p,the answer is no.But at lower resolutions such as 1366X768,you can max out those games

The 7870 I listed will handle those games pretty well, as will this 7950 which is currently out of stock

But it will fit my motherboard/case, correct?

Your motherboard should have a PCI-E slot which the GT 430 currently occupies so that would work

If your case is a regular tower form factor (and not a slim/small form factor) the cards should fit well

Forgot to ask earlier, could you perhaps provide a link to your exact PC model or list your full specs? the Athlon II X4 640 will hold you back in some games if that's the one you have currently

Thank you, I knew this. I was verifying because my mother will not believe that my current card isnt the 'best card for my pc' because someone told her so two years ago.

I'm trying to tell her that if a pc has the room and correct slot, it will fit. she will not listen...

Thank you so much!

Hope it goes well :)

Should have mentioned earlier, WoW is CPU intensive so even with a better GPU you should see some FPS dips during big raids or whatnot

If by any chance you have the rare PCI (non express) version of the 430, then a PCI-E card wouldn't work haha (since almost everything comes with PCI-E nowadays I'd highly doubt it :p)

I looked it up and it (the motherboard) has

1 PCI Express x16 slot for graphics card
3 PCI Express x1 slots
1 PCI Express x1 minicard slot

So I'm good, no worries! haha
