This is my set up.

Amd 2 4x 640 3.2 ghz CPU
R9 270x - gpu
8GB 1066 MHz ram
750w power supply.
320gb. Hard drive ssd

I'm playing battlefield 4 and I struggle to get 50 FPS on the lowest settings!!

Could anyone shed some light as to why this might be ?

cheers guys, yea i thought as much, i dont think that CPU you linked me is compatible with my motherboard though as its not on this list http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/list.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=M5A78L-M%20LX&p=1. im new to pc building, whats the best Compatible CPU i could get ? any ideas?

It will work.

Theres a person named ShrimpBrime who is ranked 11th at hwbot for overclocking the Phenom II X4 980 BE. And he did it with the same board you are using.

Just don't expect the same performance unless your an expert overclocker and have a supply of liquid nitrogen.
