Hi there, this question has probably been asked many times.

My board has 4 slots, two are in use with 2 x 4gb rated at 8-8-8-24 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600.1.5v

I realise that I only need 1333 DDR3.

Should there be any problems if I fitted memory rated at 7-7-7-24 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1333, 1.5v

I notice the CL numbers are lower but I`m guessing they will run at a slower CL8 am I correct, I haven`t yet decided if I will be adding another 8 or 16gb.

Both lots of memory will be of the same brand.

Thankyou

Depending on your luck, you may be able to run in one of these modes:
- 1600-8-8-8
- 1333-7-7-7
- 1333-8-8-8

In some cases, it may not work at all but that is relatively uncommon and may indicate that there are some other less commonly discussed timings that also require tweaking.

Thanks, I don`t believe my board will go any higher than 1333, the 1600 runs at 1333 and I`m fine with that, seems everyone wants 1600 speed or higher and this seems cheaper to buy :)

According to Crucial it should be fine but I`m not so sure (used there checker)

1333-7-7-7 will probably work.

As for why everyone wants 1600 or faster, that would be mostly because many 1333 DIMMs are (or were) about the same price as 1600 ones, making them the optimal cost-benefits point in most cases for people who have CPUs that can use 1600.
