Has anyone found a program that will give accurate temps for the AMD FX processors and APUs? I have built with several FX processors, APUs, and now have an Athlon X4 760K I'm assembling in a budget build. It is on an Asrock F2A88X Extreme 4 MB with a CM 212 EVO cooler on it. I'm using MX-4 TIM.

At idle:

HWmonitor doesn't even show core temps, but it shows a package temp of between 48C and 67C constantly fluctuating up and down. Sometimes it hits the TjMax of 70C (158F) for a brief moment.

Core Temp starts out at 0C, jumps around in the teens, and finally starts climbing to mid 67C. That's 152F.

AMD's own Overdrive won't even show temps for its own processor. Just has a dash where the temp for the cores would be.

Yet, if I touch the cooler's base plate or the CPU's heat spreader with my finger tip, it is cool to the touch. The EVO's fan never leaves its idle speed. I've had this same temperature issue with every AMD processor I've built with since they dropped the K10 micro architecture and went to the Bulldozer micro architecture. Anybody have an idea what AMD's problem is?

reset the bios to default or clear CMOS, i have had a similar issue where it doesnt show temps or it just reads 0c, usually an error and normally for me happened with an overclock. How many programs have u tried? and have u even seen a core temp or just the package temp?

Also heard that at low temps the readout is inaccurate but once temps get higher its better, usually its like 10c difference if u can get the program to actually show u temps, i found that AI Suite for asus boards tend to be accurate than anything else thats third party but with an ASRock board ur kind of SoL on AI Suite lol

The BIOS shouldn't need resetting. I just built it new today. Nothing on it but Win7 and a few utilities. I just ran Intel Burn Test for a 10-run pass. Core Temp stayed at 0C all the way thru. HWM showed CPUTIN staying at 32C. Heck, Core Temp showed the CPU clock at 3700MHZ, while CPU-Z was showing it at 3900-4000MHZ. Can't do much O/Cing with that kind of inaccurate feed back.

I talked to some AMD rep on the AMD forum. He told me some story about how they were aware of the problem and were working on it. Working on it?! They've had this problem since the 1st Bulldozer.

Either must be a faulty sensor in the cpu or the board, didnt know it was new lol. Since u said u have other apu builds or have built not sure if u have any one hand could attempt to use a different board or cpu to see if its hardware related. Do u get bios readouts for temps? obviously there wont be much load, but could be a bios bug that isnt sending that info the the software, could try updating if not fully updated to current bios

My FX-4100 Idle around 38-40C with Cooler Master EVO 212 + Noctua NF-F12 PWM at 500 rpm in Cooler Master Silencio 550 Case.Room temperature is around 20C

@ lazyboy947
Yeah, this has happened with 2 x FX 6300s, 1 x A10-5800K, and now this GPU-less APU; an Athlon X4 760K. All different boards. All the same results with all the temp pgms I used so far.

Hey. I am getting what appears to be an accurate readout with HMiNFO! Granted it is only "CPU" temp, not core temps. But since the sensor under the socket is said to read a few degrees higher than actual core temp**, I guess I can live with that. And the clock speed of each core seems right too. Thanks for pointing me towards the pgm. :)

Running IBT now. At idle HWiNFO showed 28.5C. The display started climbing as soon as I started IBT and reached a max temp of 44.0C after a 10-run pass.

** (never could figure out how that could be)

Well the DTS inside the FX is super inaccurate when temps are low. Once you reach 40c it'll be spot on accurate.
Mine's not.

I wonder how AMD managed to fail at something like that? Their K10s and K8s never had that problem.

You sure you are reaching 40c core temp?`Sounds like you're not.

No, not at idle of course. But when I stress the processor, the numbers are not much more reassuring. But it's a moot point now. I disassembled the Athlon build and moved on to another build I'm working on now. Thanks for the help.
