Any constructive criticism or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Solution
You have a processor with a locked multiplier , and a motherboard with a Z87 chipset that lets you overclock .
You can have the exact same performance using an H87 chipset motherboard . You could even use a m-ATX H87 chipset board and save even more .
Its unlikely you will need 4 expansion slots let alone the 7 you get with an ATX board .

That opens the possibility of using a smaller m_ATX case .

The velociraptor was an awesome drive . But today its performance is moderate .
Either use an SSD boot drive , or an SSD cache drive of around 60 gig , or just buy a seagate hybrid drive that incorporates an SSD controller chip and enough memory for windows and your most frequently used programs...

Nothing graphics intensive if that's the gist of your inquiry. Mostly word processing, some excel work, and running quantitative analysis software. Other than that, streaming video and general home use.

And, although it's not an option on pcpartpicker, I was thinking of this for my mobo:

ASRock Fatal1ty H87 Performance LGA 1150 Intel H87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
