I am most likely going to buy a new PC this Sunday consisting of these parts:
Motherboard:MSI Z87-G45/Asus Z87-A(The MSI is cheaper)
CPU:i5 4670k
CPU Cooler: Scythe Ninja 3
RAM: G.Skill 2x4 1600Mhz Ripjaw
PSU: SeaSonic X-650
Case: Corsair 300r
Now, I live outside the US (Israel), and the difference is about 300INS($85), the GTX780 being more expensive of course.

I wanted to wait for a third party R9 290, but it isn't happening this year according to another site with so called "legit" sources.

The temperature of the card is quite important, as it is quite hot in Israel.

I am planning to overclock my CPU to about 4.2Ghz at first, perhaps ~4.5Ghz later on, and the GPU to about 1000Mhz core, 6100MHz memory.

At the moment I will be gaming on a 1600x900 monitor, though I'm planning to buy a 1080p monitor.

What is the better choice? will the R9 290 with a third party cooler be so much better than the GTX 780?
Should I wait or just go for the GTX 780?

If your current GPU is serving you fine, hold on to it and get the new monitor and 290 when a better cooler is available. Because those cards are overkill for your current resolution.

My current GPU is an HD7850, and it doesn't work that well even on that resolution.
Generally, my current PC isn't that great.
But still, is it worth waiting for the non-reference 290? There's no official announcement about it. It can come out in like 2 months.

If i were to make a decision I would never buy a reference card. I'm frustrated at AMD for not letting manufacturers release custom coolers. Not even an announcement of a release date, what they expect us to wait forever? Screw that ima just get a 780 and AMD can continue losing customers for all I care.

How well does he GTX 780 overclock? What clocks can I reach on it without increasing the voltage?
